Summary
Professor Hwang’s interest spans a wide range of topics, from fundamental turbulent flows to industrial applications such as power generation gas turbines and jet engines. His fundamental research utilizes homogeneous isotropic turbulence to examine dispersion of fine dust (particulate matter) in the atmosphere, and also photon-matter interactions using optical/laser based measurement techniques. Applied research utilizes novel measurement techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and infrared thermal imaging to examine cooling of gas turbine blades. He has proposed, procured, and managed many research projects from the Korean National Research Foundation, Doosan Heavy Industries, Seoul National University, and General Electric (GE). His background covers a broad set of disciplines, including fluid mechanics, multiphase flow, turbulence, heat transfer, combustion, and experimental techniques.
